Saturday May 22nd 2010

Well, here comes round two...

Yesterday started out bright and early at 6 AM. Couldn't get back to sleep, and had the doctor at 7:45 anyhow. That went OK. I get to stop taking nose spray, which is nice. I'm also supposed to stop carrying around a towel to dab at myself, because it's unsanitary. That makes enough sense, but I still can't close my lips all the way, so Kleenex use has been rampant in the last 24 hours.

Got home and around 8:30, my Aunt showed up, which was nice. Danielle also came by around 10:00. Spent the day watching movies, drinking Powerade, and dabbing at my chin. Mom brought me home a milkshake, which I drank, and I also had some beef broth at dinner. So, at least my intake is increasing a bit. Mom has a recipe for Orange Julius that I might try out today.

Watched the game (damn you Chicago!) and went to bed around 11:30, which is the latest I've voluntarily stayed up in nearly a week. Woke up this morning around 9:00, though I'd still awoken two or three times in the night, which meant I also finally had a good night's sleep.

Let's see what today brings!

My First Post

So.... where to begin?

Well, Monday morning I got up bright and early, and went to Brampton Civic where I checked in for jaw surgery. I was having my upper jaw moved forward, my lower jaw moved back, and my chin re-aligned to ensure that my mouth would continue to function. After I spent two days in hospital, and came home yesterday, things have been interesting. My mouth is still incredibly numb, which makes it very difficult to take down any liquids (and I'm not allowed to eat solids). To get better though, I'm supposed to be drinking lots. You can see the obviously frustrating paradox. I also have little control of my drool, and am constantly dribbling on myself. Thankfully, my parents and Danielle have been around taking care of me, and my Aunt is coming by tomorrow.

As you might imagine, this process is extremely frustrating, and not the least of my frustrations is my relative inability to speak. Hence, I've decided to start this blog, where I can have slightly freer reign to speak as I recover. Hope anyone who is interested might give it a read now and again.
